Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (2)

My Hero Academia follows Deku as he trains under the legendary Pro Hero All Might and attends the prestigious U.A. High School, a renowned institute for teaching the next generation of Pro Heroes in Japan. Initially Quirkless, Deku inherits his Quirk, One for All, from All Might, essentially becoming the new torch-bearer for the strongest Quirk — and legacy — within the country. Determined to follow in his mentor’s footsteps, Deku sets out to prove himself worthy of the mantle bestowed upon him.

As such, Deku often rushes headfirst into conflict, gathering many injuries in the process. Some heal on their own given time and recuperation, but some leave Deku close to the brink of death, facing permanent damage or severely injured as a result of his unwillingness to back down. From the cuts Deku sustains during his brawl with Hero Killer Stain to Deku taking one of Bakugo’s unbridled explosions straight to the face during their Class 1-A’s mock battle, these injuries were the worst Deku received throughout the first seven seasons of the popular shōnen series.

10 Best Quirks in My Hero Academia Season 7 (That Aren't One For All)

The villains and heroes of MHA put their best quirks on display in Season 7.

10 Deku Sustains Cuts in his Tussle with Hero Killer Stain

Beginning in Season 2, Episode 29, “Hero Killer: Stain vs U.A. Students” and Season 2, Episode 30, “Climax”

Shortly after the U.A. Sports Festival, the students in U.A. High School’s hero course begin an internship program, granting them a sneak peek at the work of a professional hero. During this same time, Iida’s older brother, the Pro Hero Ingenium, runs into the Hero Killer Stain. Ingenium receives severe injuries that prevent him from continuing to be a hero, devastating Iida, who idolized his older brother. When Iida finds himself in the same area where the Hero Killer attacked his brother, he abandons his internship to search for Stain, revenge on his mind.

Luckily, Deku and Todoroki appear at pivotal moments, rescuing Iida and the Pro Hero called Native from being murdered by Stain. During the ensuing fight, Deke receives multiple slicing injuries over his body, which Stain inflicts so that he can get the blood of his victims, allowing him to activate his Bloodcurdle Quirk. While not the most wounded of the Class 1-A trio, Deku does still go to the hospital afterward, receiving care before he’s allowed to resume his hero course work.

9 All Might Doesn’t Hold Back Against Deku and Bakugo During U.A.’s Final Exams

Season 2, Episode 37, “Katsuki Bakugo: Origin”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (4)

With final exams approaching, the students of Class 1-A work diligently to prepare for the practical portion of the test, which is revealed to be a two-on-one match pitting two students against one of the Pro Hero teachers. Deku and Bakugo get paired together, allowing the two an opportunity to air their grievances with each other and find some semblance of teamwork, with All Might selected as their opposition. The fight starts off roughly, with Bakugo refusing to work with Deku.

However, Deku proves once again that he’s one of the most motivational My Hero Academia characters around by convincing Bakugo to set aside their differences for the sake of the test. They rally together, but All Might refuses to pull his punches against either Bakugo or Deku. By the end of the test (which they do pass), Bakugo and Deku both visit Recovery Girl, with the school nurse furious with All Might for the cuts, bruises and the state of Deku’s back after receiving a powerful wallop from the Symbol of Peace himself.

8 Deku Takes an Explosion to the Face While Redirecting the Blast During a Mock Battle Against Bakugo and Iida

Season 1, Episode 7, “Deku vs. Kacchan”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (5)

Early on in the series, before Deku learns how to better control his Quirk One for All, Aizawa pits his students against each other in a two-on-two confrontation to gauge the progress of their studies so far. Naturally, Deku and Bakugo end up on opposite sides, allowing both boys a chance to confront the tension and resentment festering between the two. Pretending to be the villain in the scenario suits Bakugo, who unleashes all his pent-up frustrations about Deku’s new Quirk during the match.

10 Most Important Fights In My Hero Academia (That Didn't Involve Class 1-A)

While Class 1-A are the ensemble of heroes who are at the center of My Hero Academia, there are still many worthy battles that did not involve them.

Backed into a proverbial corner by the sheer power and skill Bakugo possesses, Deku does the unthinkable and allows Bakugo to unleash a devastating explosion right in his face, all so that he can use a Smash and redirect most of the blast upward. This allows Uraraka a chance to complete their objective and retrieve the fake bomb as part of the test, but Deku suffers rough injuries because of it. The Smash seriously hurts his arm, while his other suffers serious burns from the excess of the explosion, requiring him to once again visit Recovery Girl for help in healing up.

7 Deku Drowns in Despair and Pushes his Body Past its Limits Until Class 1-A Brings him Home

Beginning in Season 6, Episode 132, “Full Power!!” through Season 6, Episode 136, “Deku vs. Class A”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (7)

After the events of the Jaku General Hospital Raid, Deku begins to isolate himself from U.A. High School and his friends, recognizing the potential harm he could bring to his school’s doorstep as All for One sends assassins and criminals to collect Deku. He eventually makes the decision to leave the sanctuary the school provides, opting to work alongside All Might, Hawks and Endeavor to lure Al for One’s lackeys out into the open for more information. As the toll of such a harrowing experience begins to wear down Deku’s cheerful demeanor as one of shōnen’s most inspirational characters, he eventually goes rogue, heading out on his own to spare the others from harm.

Without rest, food or others he can rely on, Deku spirals into a dark mental state, making him an easy target for some of All for One’s jailbreaked criminals. His friends in Class 1-A eventually manage to convince Deku to return to U.A. for some rest, but the state of such prolonged exposure and isolation has run Deku ragged. He requires copious amounts of rest to get back to fighting form, but thankfully, his friends extend him a lifeline to pull him out of his bleak mental state.

6 Deku Channels One for All Through his Broken Fingers to Defeat Todoroki During the U.A. Sports Festival

Season 2, Episode 23, “Shoto Todoroki: Origin”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (8)

The U.A. Sports Tournament allows students in the Hero Course to shine, showcasing their skills and abilities for the world at large. Despite his inability to fully control his Quirk, Deku is determined to win and show to the world that he aims to follow in All Might’s footsteps. However, as the tournament progresses, Deku also comes to realize that his fellow classmate, Shoto Todoroki, harbors a darkness that stems from the sordid Todoroki family.

Determined to help Todoroki confront his past trauma, while still trying to win the tournament, Deku concentrates the full force of One for All in his fingers, breaking them to create Smashes that can keep up with Todoroki’s icy barrage. When he’s broken all of his fingers, Todoroki thinks he has a solid advantage, only for Deku to begin busting his broken fingers even further to create more Smashes. The moment goes to show how determined Deku is once he sets his mind to a task, and how far he’s willing to go to rescue his friends, but it leaves his hand seriously mangled afterward, much to Recovery Girl’s chagrin.

5 Deku Breaks his Limbs to Rescue Uraraka During U.A.’s Entrance Exams

Season 1, Episode 4, “Start Line”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (9)

As one of the most prestigious hero course high schools in the country, U.A. proves incredibly selective about their students. As such, their entrance exam stands out as one of the toughest in Japan, with students needing to prove themselves as remarkably gifted to be invited to attend. Principal Nezu and the other leaders at U.A. High School decide to have potential students fight giant robots in a fake city landscape, hoping to gauge whether they deserve to be admitted into the hero course.

A flustered Deku initially fails to defeat any robots, but when the largest one of all appears, Deku rushes into action to save Uraraka after she becomes trapped under some debris. The heroic action sets the tone for Deku’s time at U.A., as he breaks both of his legs and one of his arms in the maneuver. It’s the first time Deku uses his One for All Quirk, and the backlash proves too much for his body, with Recovery Girl needing to step in and administer first aid to Deku’s severely maimed extremities.

4 Deku Goes Plus Ultra Against Muscular to Rescue Kota

Season 3, Episode 42, “My Hero”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (10)

The students of Class 1-A are sent to a secluded summer camp over the holiday break, so they can continue their training in a safe environment — with the attack on the U.S.J. still fresh in the facility’s mind, they decide the students need more training while keeping it secret from any villains that might wish to harm the students. The Wild, Wild Pussycats hero group helps with their training, opening up their mountain complex to the students. However, the League of Villains still track down the group, sending minions to kidnap Bakugo and destroy Deku — if they can.

Muscular, one of the League of Villain lackeys, finds Kota and tries to end him, but Deku arrives in just the nick of time. Determined to save Kota, Deku goes Plus Ultra in fighting Muscular, narrowly clinching a win. However, his body takes on extreme damage in the process, with doctors later warning Deku that even a few more punches at that magnitude will make his arm unusable, leading to permanent consequences.

3 Deku Refuses to Abandon Eri to Overhaul’s Evil Plans

Beginning in Season 4, Episode 75, “Unforeseen Hope” through Season 4, Episode 77, “Bright Future”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (12)

The fourth season of the series largely follows Deku and other select heroes working together to thwart the villainous Shie Hassaikai yakuza group, led by the mask-wearing Overhaul as he converts Eri’s body into Quirk-erasing bullets. Deku and Lemillion encounter Eri by sheer accident, after Eri attempts to escape from Overhaul earlier in the season. Deku clearly senses something amiss at the exchange, but eventually releases Eri into Overhauls’ custody, which infuriates him later on when he learns the truth.

When he finds Eri again later on, he refuses to abandon her for a second time, fighting tooth and nail to bring Overhaul down so that Eri can finally taste freedom — and sustaining painful injuries in the process. Later, in a move that might involve a heavy dose of plot armor that saves Deku’s life, Eri finally manages to tap into her Rewind Quirk, allowing her to rewind the damage Deku sustains while using his Quirk at one hundred percent during his final fight with Overhaul. While erased almost immediately after receiving it, Deku still receives the damage, making the constant barrage of pain his body experiences some of the worst he endures throughout the series.

2 Deku Sustains Heavy Damage During the Raid Against the Paranormal Liberation Front

Beginning in Season 6, Episode 119, “Encounter, Part 2” through Season 4, Episode 126, “Final Performance”

Deku's Worst Injuries in MHA, Ranked (13)

They split their forces between those raiding the hospital where Dr. Garaki and Shigaraki lie and the Paranormal Liberation Front’s base of operations at the Gunga Mountain Villa. However, in the ensuing chaos of the twin raids, Shigaraki awakens, turning the tide of the encounter and setting off to search for the bearer of One for All: Deku.

While most fans know Justin Briner as the english voice of MHA's Deku, he's had many other iconic roles.

Deku manages to lead Shigaraki away from the civilian-populated areas, engaging with the villain in a more desolate part of the ruined city. More heroes and villains arrive, drawing the battle out, but Deku and Shigaraki continue their fight, with both sustaining serious injuries because of it. Eventually, Shigaraki retreats, allowing Deki the chance to receive much-needed medical attention, as his body suffers incredible amounts of damage from the protracted fight.

1 Deku Confronts Shigaraki in the Coffin in the Sky

Beginning in Season 7, Episode 151, “A Chain of Events, Across the Ages”

In one of the best fights during the seventh season of My Hero Academia, Deku squares up against Tomura Shigaraki in a fight that’s meant to end all the hero-versus-villain fights across the board. The original plan suffers some derailment, as Toga manages to yank Deku through the wrong portal, with him ending up at the wrong location, but thanks to the U.S.A. escort that arrived with Stars and Stripes, Deku makes his way to the Coffin in the Sky where Shigaraki awaits.

The two engage in an all-out brawl, both tapping into powers and abilities previously unseen to win the upper hand. As of the end of the seventh season, the fight has yet to conclude, but even only halfway through the fight, fans can see the physical toil it is taking on Deku’s body. The true extent is yet to be unveiled for anime viewers, but given that this fight stands as the ultimate contest of good versus evil within the series, fans can feel confident that Deku will rack up a lot more injuries before the final curtain falls.
