DIY Twine Star - The Shabby Tree (2024)

I love decorating my porch and especially around my front door. I wanted something that I can keep up all year long. I like to keep a basic greenery around my door and I knew I wanted to make something with twine. I decided a star with twine would be a great item for all year long. This is a very easy DIY and does not require a lot of supplies.

The supplies you will need are:

1. Wire hangers (you will need 3 for one star)

2. Twine

3. Wire cutters

4. Scissors

5. Spray paint (this is optional)

The first thing I did was spray paint my hangers. I want my hangers to match the shade of my twine. This is an optional step.

Once my hangers are dry I then begin to form my star.

Place the first hanger down like this. You will then place the second hanger.

You should have the two points overlapping at top.

I then placed the third hanger like this on top of the previous two.

I am going to cut the hook of the third hanger off right where my finger is pointing to.

Once I cut the hook I will secure the ends together with a piece of twine.

I then took some twine and secured a few of the areas where the hangers overlapped.

Once your star is formed and secured together it is time to wrap your twine.

You will want to tie a knot for your starting point.

You will then just start wrapping in all directions. Make sure to keep cross crossing in all directions.

You will wrap your star according to how much twine you want wrapped around it. My stars are not completely covered.

You can see thru my star here and there. When you get done you will need to take your end piece and tie a knot.

I took the end and brought it up through the wire and knotted it.

I love stars so this DIY is right up my alley. Love your front porch I need to try and fix up my porch. I have a porch that has all sliders for doors with screens on each. Like being outside if you open them all. It’s warm in winter and cool in summer.I have a lot of stars already on that porch but would like to do something like you have with Garland and Stars. Love love!

Barb this are wonderful. I watched you yesterday, but the instructions on your blog are so helpful. Thank you for your time and inspiration. Today I drove down to Greenville, SC & went to Mighty Dollar. It is huge!!! Picked up a few things to use in my crafting. That store had tons of scrapbooking supplies. Maybe you can take a trip over. Thank you again. Stay safe.

How do I find a craft that you did? I have searched your website and it says beehive not found. Looking through the emails I have seen some but they do not include the directions for making the bed hive. Please help.

Barb, just finished making 6 stars, I have 2 wrapped in jute and I am spraying them white and putting twinkle light in them and then I will attach them to flay pallets that I painted by myself and my 2 sisters, I have too get the twinkle lights, I will attach them to the flag and post a picture. Hope you are doing well, love seeing the kids on your videos. Your videos keep my spirits lifted especially when I watch in the evening. It does get lonely since my husband passed away. You make us feel like we are part of the Shabby Tree family and that we get to know you. I don’t every feel that you are making goof ups, that is just part of the experience and keeping it real. You do make a difference in people’s lives. I have always made different items, learned how to sew at an early age. Making limes and lemons for a dough bowl and trying to find some lemon payer so that I can put on something. You are a shinning light in your followers eyes and I would dare anyone to say differently. Love being part of The Shabby Tree family.
