Great Musician Glenn Miller: Who Killed Him?

Glenn Miller is one of my favorite musician. Who killed this great musician of the 20th century? Canadians or Germans? Or any other? Anybody knows more on mysteries surrounding his death?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Miller

In 1942, Miller joined the United States Air Force and was commissioned as a Captain. He was also appointed Commander of the Band and devoted himself to reorganising it. Then he formed the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band, that gave over 800 performances overseas in two years to U.S. servicemen. Ray McKinley, Bobby Nichols, Hank Freeman, Peanuts Hucko and Mel Powell were some of the musicians in the band. Johnny Desmond and the Crew Chiefs were the singers.

On December 15, 1944, he was scheduled to fly from England to Paris to play for the soldiers that had recently liberated the city. His plane disappeared over the English Channel and was never found. Miller's death remains somewhat of a mystery; the fact that neither Miller's remains nor the wreckage of his plane (a single-engined Norseman UC-64, USAAF Tail Number 44-70285) were ever recovered from the Channel have led to many conspiracy theories over the years. A popular theory holds that, in the foggy weather that bedeviled the Channel on that date, Glenn Miller's plane strayed into a "safe drop" zone and was bombed out of the air by Canadian Air Force bombers disposing of bombs that went unused during an aborted bombing run on German positions. Despite Miller's death, his band continued to play for troops until August 1945, when the members were discharged and returned to New York.

THe single enfine Norseman disappeared after take off! It may have gome down in England OR the Channel. Some say it was flying below bombers that were dropping bombs into yh channel before landing in England.
There was a search for the plane in soouth England in the past 10 years.

NOVA on US public television did a show on this very story and the had testimony from an RAF tail gunner who saw bombs strike a Norseman. They checked the times and headings and it came out very close. So that may be the most plausible story of his loss.

So unless it's not written by some 'contemporary famed court historian' who seem to all go around quoting each other, without leaving their hallowed ivory towers or University campuses, and doesn't fit our 'mindset', then it can't possibly be true eh ?

I didn't say he was killed because he was a spy, I read he was zipping over to France, and was probably accidentally killed by a UK bomber unloading their remaining bombs over the Channel. He was supposedly flying to Paris.

I cannot for the life of me remember where I read it. But after being in academia for many years, it was probably in some UK newspaper. I thought perhaps someone would have had more detail than I do.

Have a look at this sound recording of Miller speaking in German, for wartime propaganda.

The book Glenn Miller Declassified by Dennis M. Spragg debunks all conspiracy theories that Glenn Miller's death/disappearance over the English Channel was the result of foul play or friendly fire and instead makes the case that the Norseman piloted by Spragg went down due to icing on its systems, relying on declassified and newly discovered documents concerning the circ*mstances of the accident, including the inquiry findings of January 20, 1945.
