The arrival of a baby is always a beautiful thing. Whether first time parents or seasoned ones, a tough journey or an easier one, celebrating a new baby is a must! If you already know Dreamery Events, then you know we love a good ole simple and sweet al fresco party. Those are my favorite ways to celebrate expecting parents and the new bundle that awaits, sure grand parties are fun and gorgeous but there’s something equally as beautiful as something small and intimate put together by loved ones just because. No stress of following a restaurant or venue’s timeline, just a fun few hours. A backyard shower may be more laid back BUT it is most certainly nothing short of lovely and pretty!

That’s why I love the theme of “Baby in Bloom” — nothing is quite more perfect for celebrating a baby’s arrival. It’s a gender neutral theme, works with endless styles, seasons and colors, and it’s soo easy to recreate!

I styled this intimate “Baby in Bloom” shower at one of my dear client’s backyard for her cousin at the height of Spring, and the day couldn’t have been more perfect!! With a bright blue and sunny sky as the backdrop, cascading greens, White Ranunculus, Chrysanthemums and “Playa Blanca” Roses graced a long table where guests mingled. More pretty Italian Ruscus and Seeded Eucalyptus cascaded along rustic tree trunks, woods, vintage galvanized urns, and garden watering cans that turned the darling little naked cake into a beautiful dessert display.

We also used the same table place fun advice and wish cards guests signed for the parents and baby, as well as gifts.This is a great tip for saving and making use of little space, whether outside on a patio or indoors. Grab a large table, turn it into a square giving you more table top space to create a multi-use display.

Food was kept simple, being catered by a favorite restaurant and setup indoors around the island and dining table. This is another tip, create separate food and drink serving areas from your actual sit down eating area, like in a venue, this creates flow and space for guests to linger. If having an outdoor party where guests are under a tent, maybe consider using the garage as your food stations, a covered deck/patio or any indoor space adjacent to your yard. Last thing you want guests during a home party is to feel cramped sitting down or simply feeling like they can’t get up and move.

When details and decor is kept to a minimum like this shower, make sure the details you do do, are a little bit grander. How adorable is the chalkboard! It was the first thing guests saw and it gave the party a sense that it had a true “theme.”Laura’s “Baby is in Bloom” and since she is having a little girl, I of course made sure to draw in a few extra pretty blooms and greens.

A large chalkboard, banner or sign is a great way to make that impact of a full fledged planned shower, while still being easy and affordable.

When it comes to a “Baby in Bloom” color scheme, I love to stick with a green and white palette. It strays away from the normal baby shower colors of endless pinks or blues. Instead these colors are soothing and relaxing, exactly what expecting parents want to feel. And so do any guests at a party!

BUT using lots of greenery with pops whites allows this theme to not only work for Spring and Summer, but for Fall and Winter too. By adding in your own personal touches and pops of extra colors in flowers or vases or linens, you can make this “Baby in Bloom” theme completely unique to you.An “Apple Orchard in Bloom” version for Fall would be perfect don’t you think?!

With the amount of guests we had, a long table was the perfect setup! If having more guests, several long tables work just as well, but stick to white linens and go ahead mix-match chairs…who really cares.

The tables were garden visions with Italian Ruscus vines cascading along, which I kept secure with small modern clear and pale yellow bud vases. You can easily get this beautiful selection of flowers at Whole Foods, but stick with blooms that are sturdy in warmer temperatures like these White Roses and Mums.

Then select flowers that are a bit more delicate with a natural ethereal movement, like Ranunculus and Queen Anne’s Lace. Add in a few more sprigs of greens to secure these short cut blooms in place and you’re all set. {If your area or it’s the time of year mosquitos can become plagues, light natural citronella votive candles or even place a few potted lavender or lemon balm plants around guest sitting to naturally repel bugs too.}

Simple, low-key or cost effective parties don’t mean they skimp on the fun or cute “baby shower” things. Create your own “Advice Cards” or “Wishes for Baby” cards or find some great ones on Etsy, then setup them up for guests to share their loving messages.

Setup games for any kids, have playing cards and even lawn games on hand for adult guests to entertain themselves with. And of course don’t forget the music!!
